Who are we?

Positive Scotland is an international organisation based in Scotland. We exist to develop positive links with indigenous people and cultures all over the world and much more. We do have a specific focus on regions of the world that have been impacted upon by historical British Colonialism.

We do this by initiating partnerships which allow two way learning to develop understanding between our peoples. We want to help build a future in which all our children now, can trade in knowledge and respect in the future.

Aspirational Marginalisation

At home these partnerships are aimed at addressing 'aspirational marginalisation' in our society, by creating a window of opportunity for people to reach out to the wonderful diversity, and the rich cultures & traditions that exists in our world for us all to enjoy together. We wish to identify and engage those who are perceived as marginalised.

We view such marginalisation as both a process, and a condition, that prevents individuals or groups from full participation in social, economic and political life, all contributing to the marginalisation of an individual or group of individuals.

We believe that ‘aspirational marginalisation’ is an overarching theme which can encompass all of these.  We could also term this as the ‘poverty of ambition’. Those who come from such communities do not see a world of opportunity.  They see themselves as APART from and not A PART OF.

They may even feel a part of their community, however, see their whole community as not a part of the wider society or world they exist in. That the old saying that the world is your oyster, is sadly not how many marginalised communities see their life opportunities and the world in which they live in.

Our challenge is to turn a negative self-image into a positive one, individually and collectively.  And to project a positive image to the world of how we are in this country. It is to create a window of opportunity between us and the outside world and to convince people that it is worthwhile to seek knowledge of other ways of living, cultures or traditions.

Our organisation works on the premise that if people are inspired, they then aspire.
